HUMANITY MATTERS

Whether we're talking about poverty, homelessness, disasters, refugees, the elderly, or abused children, humanity is vulnerable everywhere.  Not only those in need, but those of us who aren't and choose to ignore the plight of humanity thinking there is nothing we can do, only increases the vulnerability of humanity as a whole. This section contains information from many viewpoints about what is going on in the world - and how any single person can help raise awareness, donate,or even think differently - it all helps.

SHELTER MATTERS

In a world gone mad with homelessness and lack of suitable housing, this section offers some resources about alternative shelter from tiny homes, to massive earthship buildings, from wilderness camping to off-grid living in sustainable, ecofriendly, green and economical ways. It offers a different way of living that everyone can manage, with or without funds, that replenishes rather than depletes, reuses existing materials, or at least find solutions that minimize impacts outside mainstream housing solutions..

FOOD MATTERS

With the advent of less than ideal food sources that use growth hormones, pesticides and additives, is it any wonder we've seen an astronomical increase in degenerative and lifestyle diseases?Growing food, finding or cooking food, eating food, every carbon-based life form has to consume nutrients to live.  From vertical urban gardens to full scale 'pure' food gardening, from recipes to food culture, you'll find lots of ideas in this section.  After all, we are what we eat - literally!

HEALTH MATTERS

Used to be we put all our faith in the family doctor. But there's been a shift in the last 20 years that moves away from leaving the responsibility for our own health to the medical community and taking responsibility for our own health.  Having lived in my body for over 50 years, I have a pretty good idea of when it's well and when it's not. Presumably, you do too.  This section will give you some alternative approaches away from big pharma and more in keeping with a natural balance in health.

ANIMALS MATTER

We don't have to look too far these days to find ways of advocating quality of life for animals, whether it's supporting our local animal shelters, using our land to encourage animal environments or buying meat and eggs from free-range sources. This section houses articles and information from every point of view that includes vegans at one end and hunters at the other.  No judgement., just information that allows each of us to make informed choices, however we choose to live and eat.

EDUCATION MATTERS

My dad once told me that education matters because anyone can lose their job, home, belongings,  but no one can take away your education. Where there is knowledge and understanding, there is always HOPE.Whether through traditional

school, university, home schooling or the school of life, learning and growing personally and professionally, is never a bad choice.  Education is lifelong. This section touches on every sort of education from personal development to new global initiatives, from ways to contribute to engaging in educating ourselves.

SUSTAINABILITY  MATTERS

Between global warming, population numbers hitting critical mass and extreme captalism, our planet is in trouble. Whether you believe in exploiting oil sands and landfill housing or cleaning up the oceans and wind power, there's no denying that the way we, as a global population, are living now is simply unsustainable in the long term.  This section offers views from both sides of the fence.  The solutions, if there are any are so complex with so many stakeholders, all I can do is post information and hope that readers can make their own choices to find sustainable solutions for their own lives

LIFE HACKS MATTER

Any way of doing something that makes life easier, is more efficient and hopefuly uses the reuse, recycle and still survive principle is good in my books. From opening food cans without a canopener to folding those blasted fitted sheets, from  untangling power cords to inventive uses for old candles and everything beyond will be found here.  Camping hacks to kitchen gizmos, vehicle maintenance to packing for holidays, decluttering to economical solutions of every kind for those messy life bits that drive us all nuts - here's the section for you!

TECHNOLOGY MATTERS

Much as we may long for simpler times, technology is not going away.  Or at least not (for those conspiracy theorists out there) until world governments, alien visitors or lack of resources causes a shut down.  So while we may feel nostalgic for the 'good old days' making friends with tecnology, knowing what's out there and using it judiciously, will only serve to enhance our experience of the wider world.  This section focuses on tech from new methods of powering our homes, to advances in medical technologies, from smart phones to virtual reality - and everything in between.

HOMESTEADING MATTERS

Not every homesteader is looking to opt-out of society or wanting to go offgrid.  For many, it's about sustainable living, increased self-sufficiency: of loosening our dependency on supermarkets or overly consumerised economies.  Wanting less 'stuff' and more 'life'. Modern homesteading give us the choice of knowing for sure what goes into our food, our animals and our environments, and can make informed choices about what we consume.. Basic homesteading shows us how we can start where we stand, with our available resources to take control of our lives instead of allowing governments, corporates, big pharma, or the FDA tell us what we should be consuming.

UPCYCLING MATTERS

Upcycling is a great way to reuse materials and reduce our footprint.  It also turns out some spectacularly beautiful pieces, Whatever you're into from repurposing an old barrel into a new doghouse, or finding ways to recycle mason jars, from dumpster-diving to a few free hours at a loose end, innovation and creativity are the keys. This section gathers interesting and innovative projects from around the world to help fuel your passion or give you new ideas for keeping stuff out of the landfill.  One of the greatest things about upcycling is you can't do it wrong - just let your imagination soar!

TRAVELING MATTERS

Like the old proverb states... "he (or she!) who travels, knows much" . Ask anyone who has travelled, old or young, from any culture or corner of the world, and they will admit that travelling taught them something important that they would never have understood fully from their armchairs. The more we travel, the more we come to understand two paradoxical things: that everyone is different (and that's ok), and that at heart, at the base of our humanity, we are all the same.  We seek connection of some kind, a meaningful life, being, doing or having something that matters. Whether you're going to an unexplored village down the road, or backpacking around the world, you'll find some interesting travel stories, tips and inspiration here.
